A few weeks ago we told you that we helped build a playground in Detroit. The playground was in the parking lot of The New Providence Baptist Church which is also the home of The Y Detroit Innovation Academy– A public K-5 charter school funded through State School Aid. While building the playground we stumbled upon a HUGE room full of clothes, shoes, baby items and so much more. I opened the door and asked the women what was going on. Lisa Benjamin introduced herself and invited us in to take a look. We were so happy to meet Lisa who was so welcoming and happy to tell us about the FREE clothing drive the church hosts. What we loved about the the giveaway was just that, it was a GIVEAWAY. Free! It is so nice to know that when cleaning out your closet instead of the items being sold the items are given to the less fortunate for free.
on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m New Providence Baptist Church will provide thousands of individuals in need with “FREE” clothing, coats, shoes, community resources at its 12th Bi-Annual “FREE” Clothing, Shoes and More Giveaway. EVERYONE is welcome!
The church is located at 18211 Plymouth Road, Detroit, MI 48228 (corner of Plymouth Road and Southfield Freeway).
“We have clothed over 12,000 and fed over 35,000 individuals living in the Metropolitan Detroit area through this program.”
Save the date and get your donation items ready for the next giveaway March 23, 2013.
Clothing racks, 13 gallon trash bags and supplies for the volunteers are still needed for this Saturday.
