Guest Blog: Baby your babies skin

Hello iHeartkids friends, my name is Brooke. I am an iHeartkids fan, a mother, and a beauty-industry geek. When I find a product or any info that I feel would be useful to friends, I like to share!

CeraVeWhen it comes to my babies, I like to educate myself on the products I use on their precious skin and hair, and even the laundry soap and softener I use for them. My go to choices are always anything “free & clear”. Free of harsh fragrance, and free of dyes, that can cause irritation.

Now, just because a product is geared toward children, doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best choice. Many are heavily scented and contain ingredients that can dry the skin out and cause allergic reactions. In fact, most of the products I use on my kids are found in the main beauty isle, or behind the pharmacy counter, no prescription needed. An added bonus is these products can be used on the whole family! My favorite brands include, Cerave, Cetaphil, California Baby, and Avene.  Avene is a special brand you can find online, made especially for super sensitive skin.

If you currently have a lotion or wash that may not be best for your baby and you don’t want to toss it, use it on yourself. Keep in mind, the younger the child, the more sensitive they are to anything that comes in contact with their precious skin. Laundry soaps, baby wipes, and powders included. If it smells nice to you, it may not be so nice to your child’s skin. In the end, the comfort of your child trumps pretty scents, and fancy packaging.

I hope you find some of this information useful. I’m sure your family will thank you. Now, get out there and baby your baby’s skin!
